New Hope Housing has appointed Jennifer Litwak Schindler as its next CEO. The appointment comes as the affordable housing nonprofit prepares for the departure of Joy Horak-Brown, who has led the organisation for around three decades.

Horak-Brown has been at the centre of New Hope Housing's growth. The organization began with merely 40 efficiency apartments. It later developed further its housing portfolio and its support services to residents.

A growing affordable housing portfolio

New Hope Housing now has 2,115 apartment homes across 15 locations, according to its 2025 community report. The figures show how much the organisation has grown since its early days.

Support services can also be provided to assist them in succeeding with their education, well being and case management.

Finding affordable housing can be difficult. Those living on a low income will often struggle to find the right housing options.Housing organizations such as New Hope Housing provide both housing and support services.

A new chapter in leadership

Schindler's appointment comes at a turning point for the organisation. Horak-Brown's departure will close a long chapter in its history, following years of expansion in housing and resident services.

The change also puts the focus on what comes next. Maintaining existing properties and continuing to support residents will remain important parts of the organisation's work. Its future plans under Schindler, however, have not yet been confirmed in the information available.

The leadership change comes as affordable housing providers continue to face the challenge of meeting demand while supporting the people who rely on their services.

For New Hope Housing, the appointment marks the start of a new phase. Schindler will take over an organisation with an established housing portfolio and a model that combines affordable homes with resident support.
