Meliá Roatán Plans 145 Branded Residences in Honduras
A new tropical zone hotel is in the pipeline for 2029 planned by Meliá Hotels International on Roatán island, situated off the coast of Honduras, with 350 rooms and suites of the hotel and 145 housing complexes.
The project will operate under the Meliá Hotels & Resorts name. It will give buyers the option of owning a residence within a resort development. However, details on pricing, sales and rental arrangements have not yet been announced.
Meliá Roatán Plans 145 Private Residences
Roatán, which is situated in the Bay Islands of Honduras, is the largest of the islands. The project for the new resort, which will be situated next to the Caribbean, takes inspiration from nature in Roatán.
The resort plans show modernized structure designs along with gardens and terraces. Open-plan spaces will also feature in the development.
The resort’s facilities are expected to include several dining options, a beach club and spa. Retail spaces and areas for meetings and events are also part of the plans.
Alongside the hotel rooms, the 145 residences will form a separate part of the development. Branded residences typically combine private property ownership with services associated with a hotel operator. The exact services that Meliá Roatán owners will receive have not been outlined.
Meliá Looks to Expand in Central America
The Roatán project is part of Meliá Hotels International’s wider push into Central America. The company is exploring opportunities in Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador. Its expansion plans cover different brands within its portfolio.
Meliá already has a presence on Roatán through Media Luna Resort & Beach Club. The property joined the group under its Affiliated by Meliá brand. It is expected to transition to the Sol Roatán name.
The new project also continues the company’s partnership with entrepreneur Piero Dibattista, who has been involved in developing the Roatán venture.
The island's tourism has a strong link with its natural surroundings. Roatan is famous for its Caribbean beaches and marine life found there, as well as being located quite close to the Mesoamerican reef system, which is the second largest coral reef system across the globe.
The resort is set to start functioning in 2029, and this will again add to the development of hospitality on the island. For now, key details remain outstanding. The investment value, construction schedule and pricing of the 145 residences have not been disclosed.
